Thornton Thanksgiving from Chicago!

Fall is here and the air is getting colder.  The leaves are turning beautiful shades of orange, red, and gold, and falling from the trees to line the ground below.  It’s the time of year when holiday plans started to take shape.  I am definitely in holiday planning mode. I love Thanksgiving!  It is a time of gratitude for what you have, for the people who love you, and for where you are in life.  It’s also a time to give back.  We Thornton’s are planning celebrate by having everyone join us in our home in Chicago this year.  I am so excited to do this!
Pinterest has been a great resource for holiday food ideas.  I found some appetizers and deserts that my little guys can help me make.  I love that they want to help me in the kitchen more and more – I just don’t relish the idea of all the clean up that comes from that “help”!  So, I’ve decided to find some foods that will be easy, fun, and fast to make… and with as little clean up as possible.
We enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner full of holiday staples:  turkey; mashed potatoes; gravy; cranberry sauce and; stuffing.  This year I am also going to try some new dishes.  I decided to do it up and really stretch myself.  I checked Gogobot’s blog and found out what some of the fancy hotels are planning to cook for their guests this Thanksgiving season.  I’m going to take some of the ideas I’ve found and add my own special flavor to it.  Who knows how it will turn out, but it will definitely be fun trying!
I’ll share one of the things I’ve found and maybe you’ll think about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying it too.  The Waldorf Astoria in Orlando is planning to serve a pre-dinner treat that I found really interesting.  They will offer pumpkin soup accented by lobster.  Pumpkin soup!  Just the thought of it is making me feel warm and cozy.  I am absolutely trying this one!

Like I said before, this time of thankfulness is very special to me.  To be able to care for my family, to watch my children grow – these are the things I cherish most in my life.  On Thanksgiving, we usually go around the table saying at least one thing that we are most thankful for.  The things that are important vary from year to year, especially from the kids’ perspectives, but the sentiment is the same: family and love.  Do you do anything special in your family for Thanksgiving?  Maybe you’ll try our tradition on for size!  No matter what you do, I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season filled with delicious foods and unforgettable memories!

  1. What a great idea to check out fancy hotels for their Thanksgiving menu and to try and make a dish. Very creative. I am going to try that out.
