Today as part of our Thanksgiving Series I  bring you into my home and share a little piece of the Gardner Thanksgiving! There is nothing more wonderful then creating new traditions with my son! Although he is only two we enjoy cooking together and enjoy even more when we bake! We have been a kitchen team since last year after we learned how much he loves his play kitchen! He has been whipping up omelets since he could walk 🙂
It is absolutely amazing to see how much he understands and wants to do! We have enjoyed experimenting  and learning new easy healthy recipes that we both can share. So this Thanksgiving we  want to share with you our love of cooking together and one of our favorite recipes: Banana Oatmeal Cookies. The recipe is so easy as you only need two ingredients and it only takes about 15 minutes in the oven!!! So easy, oh and doesn’t leave a big mess! I can’t take credit for the recipe as I know I have seen examples of this on Pinterest.

Like I said, you only need two ingredients: 1 banana and 1/2 cup of oatmeal (we like using the traditional Quakers oatmeal); which makes about 7 cookies (plenty for us). The softer the banana the better. So this is a great recipe to take out when you have some bananas  you are thinking about throwing out.

You can chop up the banana or just cut it in half and toss in with the oatmeal and mix until you have a good blend.  Mason loves to stir the ingredients together.

Now preheat your oven to 350 degrees. While its preheating take out your baking sheet and if you have a baking mat, take that out too. (I love our baking mat. I never have to grease our pans!!!) Scoop tablespoon size balls on to the mat. Put in the oven  for 15 minutes. The recipe makes about 7 cookies, but the ingredients can be doubled easily to make more. I think this Thanksgiving we are going to throw Mason’s favorite snack into the recipe….Raisins!

After letting the cookies cool off you are ready to share this healthy dessert with your little ones!
It warms my heart to see my son help make desserts for the family. I look forward taking time out of the busy day of cooking a turkey this Thanksgiving to make some easy healthy desserts with him that he can share with our family.

Enjoy!
