The highlight of my pregnancy has been watching Mason celebrate his new role as Big Brother. The change will be a big transition for him and will evolve once baby is here, but as we have all prepared for Baby Gardner together Mason’s sweet sentiments are truly delightful to witness. He wears his Big Brother shirt proudly and often, makes sure baby has plenty to eat each day, loves to spend time in the nursery, sings to the baby, and his favorite: rubs my belly every morning and before bed. This weekend we celebrated Mason by taking a Sibling class sponsored by our local hospital and having a celebratory Super Big Brother Superhero Playdate.

At the sibling class he was able to take a tour of where I will be delivering/staying and was given great information about his new role.  We ended the weekend with a Superhero play date to celebrate Mason becoming a “Super Big Brother.” Overall it was a wonderful way to honor him and his exciting new role.

I decided a while back that instead of a Sprinkle I wanted to celebrate Mason as much as possible before baby.  As he may appear to know the change to come; the reality of it all is that none of us know what it will be like until it’s here. We are spending a lot of time now cherishing Mason as our only child and the relationship we have before it evolves to what we hope is something even more grand.  Below are a few photos of the playdate along with a few free printables should you want to celebrate your little one as well!

Superhero Welcome Sign
I started the design process with all the typical Superhero colors and designs, but end with a non-traditional look for the overall decor. The black, white, and green theme ended up being perfect for my vision. I created a little back view of a superhero wearing his Superhero Big Brother Cape to replicate Mason to be included throughout the theme. Above is a 20×30″ poster we created and a 8×10″ Welcome Sign we hung to welcome our Supehero Friends. The green honeycombs were found on sale at Target and I easily whipped up the paper flowers that hung above the food station in our kitchen.  Superhero Refueling station BeverageSupehero Refueling StationMason had a bunch of fun running around with his friends; so having a Re-Fueling Stations where they could “Power Up” served us all well.

I kept food pretty simple. Energy Boosters (veggies, cheese, crackers). Crunch: Chips. Anti-Krytonite: Treats. Make Your Own Hero: Sandwich Station. POP: PopcornSupehero Playdate black, white, greenNot seen in the photos: Each Superhero friend was invited to make and decorate their own cape and mask! By the end of the play date we had 6 Superheros running laps in full uniform ready to conquer the day! Although, I’m sure they didn’t need the sugar, we ended the playdate with a special ice cream sundae feast!

This celebration was so special to us I’m offering a few of the non-personalized printables here for personal use. Available for a free printable: Welcome Sign, Food Labels/Tags, and Re-Fueling Station sign and water bottle wraps.

  1. Fantastic !! Sounds like all the SUPERHEROS had a Great Time. Trixy, you always make “Special Events” in Super Big Brother Mason’s Life Memorable. You are a Special Mother. I know Derek is a Proud Husband and Father.
